What a novel!

So very clever. Linking characters from

  • King Ashurbanipal in 669BC in Ninevah City
  • Arthur of the sewers, born beside the Thames in 1840, who became obsessed with Ninevah
  • Narin in danger of her life by the River Tigres in 2014
  • Zaleekhah living on a Thames river-boat in 2018

All were linked by water; raindrops, rivers and floods. All were linked to Ninevah and its fascinating and tragic history. All were linked to an ancient language and little understood and persecuted religion.

It is a book which will live long in my memory. It will sit on my shelf (I only keep those books I will read again one day, which have moved me in a powerful way) waiting for me to return to read it refreshed, and I’m sure I will gain fresh insights with each read.
