With reference to your itinerary you would have crossed Northam Bridge, not Northern Bridge. Incidentally the bus you would have caught at the end of Newtown Road would have been the no5 (I used to live in Newtown Road in the late 1960s).

Many thanks Phil. It comes of being a frequent visitor when I was young and not a resident. Very fond memories though. My grandparents lived at no 55
