The church in the background was St Marys Presbyterian Church built around 1880 but was demolished in 1972.

It’s a shame. Thank you for the information. Lots more trees in those days too ~ 42 years ago at least then. It was one of my old postcards I originally sent to my parents.

I think those trees on the left were part of The Vicarge, in Woolston, on or near to the Toll booths today. At a guess date wise 1960’s. I didnt know all the houses where taken down in oak bank road though.

Interesting snowman. I love looking at old photos and fortunately my family have kept many from their early life. It inspires my writing and certainly helped when writing ‘Ancasta ~ Guide me Swiftly Home’ set in Woolston. I walked around the area with my elderly parents several times with them describing what they remembered too – fascinating. Great to see the place being rejuvenated although so important to remember its roots – especially in ship and flying boat manufacture. Many of my family worked at Supermarine. Thanks for dropping by.
