The Private Life of Spies ~ The Missing Years

Recently I posted a link to one of my blog posts on my personal Facebook Page, rather than my author Facebook page. Why? because it was about my own life in a series and of family history posts but it was personal too:

I was reflecting on having a letter about receiving my old age pension.

It prompted the comments:

A friend: “Why are there no photos of you between 16yrs and 50 yrs?

Another friend replied: “Diana let slip over a glass of red wine once, that she was a spy!’

This made me laugh, especially as Alexander Mc Call’s Private Life of Spies was sat on my bedside table, only just opened. (I will review it next week, when I’ve read the final short story, which has been a much needed light interlude, I must say!)

And so I searched old photos, to come up with ones in the in between years:

In my 20’s, teaching in Aylesbury
In my 30’s ~ what do you think of the hair?
The bottom one is flying a glider on my 40th, top in Madeira

I then planned some trips to far flung places; teaching in Sri Lanka, visiting family in Australia and then on to the USA where my niece was studying. (Do you like the Pretty Woman pose in LA?) I grew my hair longer for these trips, so that I could tie it back:

My next far flung adventure was to South America with my niece:

My family in Australia say that I go on adventures when I have a crisis in my life!

At the end of my forties, getting married changed my world for the better, except that contentment made me put on weight, which I’ve battled with ever since.

Here’s a special photo of of one of my last days in Bedfordshire before heading north to Fife:

Oh dear, the final days at Barnfield College

Happy memories of a great bunch of colleagues, more like one big happy family really, until we were broken up by cut backs and redundancies.

Hence:

The Healing Paths of Fife ~ A Fantasy Memoir

Currently sold in aid of The Kirkcaldy Foodbank. Over £750 profits donated to local charities so far.

Yes, I have thought of writing a spy novella inspired by a trip to Cuba, but I’ve never been a spy. With an author it’s all in the mind, you see!

THE HEALING PATHS OF FIFE ~ Revised and Updated

It was time, following the pandemic, for me to revise and update the popular The Healing Paths of Fife. Since it was a fantasy memoir, not only has my life moved on somewhat, having lived permanently
in Fife now for eight years, but also the towns and villages and their facilities have changed. I would like to mention that Alec and Moira, to whom the original book was dedicated, the owners of the Wee Shoppe on Kinghorn Beach, have retired due to ill health. I am still in touch with them but
they are missed by many.

I have raised well over £700 in profit from the book for The Kirkcaldy Foodbank and other local charities, and will continue to do so. If you buy it you would also be supporting a worthwhile and much needed charity.

Available at Amazon

and Waterstones

In the next couple of months I am going to revisit those wonderful places in Fife much loved and mentioned in the book.

FIVE STAR REVIEW ON READERS’ FAVORITE

For my new readers on Kobo, Barnes and Noble and Apple:

Not long after it was published I was delighted to receive a five star review for:

‘Murder, now and then’ on Readers’ Favourite.

Here’s a copy of the review:

Book Review

Reviewed by Anne-Marie Reynolds for Readers’ Favorite

Murder Now and Then: 1919 to 2019 Murder Mystery by Diana Jackson is a murder mystery with a difference – a time difference. Joanna Thomas is a farmer’s wife in 2019, who stands accused of the murder of her husband. She had no motive and the murder weapon has never been found, leaving Inspector Norton scratching his head in dismay. DS Brown and DS Petersen are not convinced that Joanne’s the murderer and continue their search, uncovering a number of coincidences that lead back to 1919, to another unsolved murder. Now they have more than one possible suspect, with alibis that don’t entirely check out. DS Brown and Petersen travel to Jersey in a bid to solve the crime but, on their return, things take a turn for the worse. It’s looking very likely that the murder in 1919 may have some strange bearing on the murder on 2019, but what it is?

Murder Now and Then: 1919 to 2019 by Diane Jackson is an ingenious story. I never figured out the connection between the two murders and that, to me, is the mark of a well-written mystery! It’s not a fast-paced book, but the story doesn’t lend itself to that. Ms. Jackson has taken the time to let us get to know and understand the characters in the story, how they fit in, as well as giving us the benefit of some historical research. It has a very well developed plot and is something very different, very clever. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be watching for more from Diana Jackson.
