Diana’s virtual tour of The Fife Coast ~ Kingsbarns to St Andrews

Ambling along grassy slopes,

pausing to glance back at

a craggy coastline

 ~ alone.

Climbing well worn rocky steps

clinging to cliff face.

Awaiting the safety of the out going tide

to reveal

a tiny cove and sandy shore.

Ancient rocks guiding the way,

a wooden bridge, a wooded glen,

 cows munching betwixt

stepping stones,

before the last ascent up wooden steps

and the final destination is in sight.

…..

Diana’s Virtual Tour of the Fife Coast ~ Crail ~ The Jewel of East Neuk

My first awareness of Crail was as a jigsaw puzzle, the harbour being so full of character with its wee fisherman’s cottages and boats bobbing in the water inside the protective harbour wall.

When you first stumble across Crail you usually park in the village, with ample off the road parking, a neat tree lined street of Georgian elegance.  Crail is best explored by foot and each time you do so you will probably find a different route down to the harbour, from narrow paths and castle walls, to steep cobbled roads. Don’t forget to pop into the museum and also enjoy an ice cream, fish and chips or a snack at one of the cafes. There are many sheltered spots for a picnic too. Just head for the castle walls.

It was such a surprise the first time we visited, peering down from the coastal path as it meets the main road, magical if the sun is shining: reminiscent of Cornwall’s Mousehole.

Who would not be inspired by Crail!

The Healing Paths of Fifea memoir, tells the full story in prose, poetry and fantasy.

A Birthday Party al fresco in the January Sunshine

The Wee Shoppe Kinghorn

On Wednesday we went back to the roots of our Scottish adventure and our total change of life’s experience. A little bird told us that it was Moira’s birthday and though The Wee Shoppe is not usually open on a Wednesday there were whispers that there was going to be a wee celebration.

The Wee Shoppe will always have a special place in our hearts. It is where we were first welcomed into the Kinghorn community, made friends and learnt the joy of blethering.

This was a beautiful winter’s day (around freezing!), with the sun shining on Kinghorn Harbour, as we set out chairs and a table on the concrete hard in front of the Wee Shoppe. There were nine of us drinking tea, eating hot sausage rolls and birthday cake.

With everyone smiling and laughing it took me right back to those early days of 2014. Great memories. Lovely people. We are so grateful to be here!

The Healing Paths of Fife tells our story in prose, poetry, fantasy and historical background and it was where I ‘met’ renowned author Nigel Tranter and he imparted some advice to me about the dangers of writing about a place I had only just discovered.
