BACKGROUND ~ I was living in Fife, writing a diary, walking along the Coastal Path in my spare time and reading about the county’s rich history when the idea of writing this fantasy pilgrimage evolved. My situation was a strange one, having been made redundant from my teaching post down south followed by a serendipitous relocation to quite a different world.

ABOUT THE BOOK ~ It is a diary of my walk, but it is much more than that. I meet characters in history along the way with whom I share insightful time and conversation. The ‘meetings’ are my way of understanding myself and where my life might be heading but they are also enriching, endowing me with a deeper sense of who I am and how special my new surroundings and its people became to me.

A friend said when she read it, ‘Did you really meet St Margaret, Diana?’

The diary flows seamlessly from reality to fantasy through prose and poetry and I hope it shows my empathy and growing love for Fife and its people. It is my way of saying thank you for their boundless welcome and hospitality.

I would particularly like to thank Heather More for her wonderful book cover, a watercolour of Pettycur and evocative of all that lies therein!

Authentic and quirky ~ Heather More’s watercolour of Pettycur caught my eye for my new tome. I wanted an informal cover which summed up my life in Fife and bearing in mind we lived in Kinghorn throughout the winter of 2013, 2014, this was just right.

Heather More is a Scottish artist who trained in Glasgow but is now living in Barcelona. She is the daughter of a lovely neighbour of mine who talked of her so proudly – rightly so! I was browsing through the link to her website one day and saw this painting of Pettycur Bay, a view I looked at every day from our lounge window in the flat which we were renting for a year.

As soon as I spotted it I thought – PERFECT!

I sent Heather an email and asked if she could possibly add a figure with a ruck-sack wearing a cerise bobble hat – me! So here we are. Wonderful.

Many a time I used to put on my hat and gloves and go for a walk along the beach, or pause a wee while sitting on the rocks in the winter sunshine sheltered by the cliff. Walking further along the coastal path I’d have my ruck-sack on too, for a bottle of water, sandwich and my wet weather gear. I’d set off, sometime on my own but frequently with my husband on his days off.

From Redundancy to Rejuvenation tells my story but in quite a different way ~ more news soon (if you’ll excuse the pun) will be available initially in paperback from Amazon from 23rd November.

Prayer for peace

BLUE : A gift from my best friend

Represents friends, family and neighbours across the globe thinking and praying for peace in the world.

WHITE: A candle from the Christian Community of Beloc in the French Pyrenees.

Represents France and all its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

RED: An tiny and much loved ethnic vase

Represents peace loving Muslims – in fact any other faith whose people wish for all to live in harmony, health and happiness.

On the hearth are poignant reminders of previous wars – on the left is a spitfire from WW2 and on the right is a pot crafted from a WW1 shell by my Great grandfather and a poppy lies between. May we learn the lessons of those conflicts and strive for a peaceful solution.

Let the silence at 11am be felt throughout the world in unity.
